Danish decorative arts from the 20th century
At KLASSIK, you will find an ever-changing selection of original Danish and Scandinavian decorative arts from the period spanning approximately 1920 to 1970. The category brings together decorative and functional objects that bridge art, design and traditional craftsmanship.
The selection may include sculptures, figures, candlesticks, vases, bowls, dishes, hollowware and smaller functional objects in silver, bronze, brass, pewter, Disko Metal, wood and other materials.
Decorative arts in silver, bronze and metal
Danish decorative arts from the 20th century are characterised by a strong understanding of materials, proportions and function. Many designers worked across sculpture, silversmithing and industrial production, creating objects that could both serve a practical purpose and be regarded as works of art in their own right.
Just Andersen is particularly known for his sculptures, lamps, vases and dishes in bronze and the distinctive Disko Metal. Svend Weihrauch is regarded as one of Denmark’s most important silversmiths and created refined hollowware in a simple Modernist design language.
The selection may also include works by Henning Koppel, Kay Bojesen, Arno Malinowski, Hugo Liisberg and Wiwen Nilsson, as well as pieces from workshops such as Georg Jensen, A. Michelsen and Just Andersen A/S.
Original objects with marks and patina
Older decorative arts may feature natural patina, traces of use and variations in the surface. Hallmarks, signatures, model numbers and workshop marks are often an important part of the object’s history and documentation.
On each product page, you will find information about the artist, manufacturer, materials, dimensions, markings and condition, where available. Many of the objects are one-of-a-kind pieces.
