Chairs by Arne Jacobsen
Arne Jacobsen is the creator of some of the world's most famous dining and shell chairs, which today stand as symbols of Danish modernism. At KLASSIK you will find original Arne Jacobsen chairs from Fritz Hansen - including classics such as Myren (3100), Syver (3107) and Grand Prix (3130). The chairs are vintage and can be reupholstered in leather or textile by our experienced upholstery workshop if desired. With their light shape, organic lines and high functionality, they are suitable for private homes, restaurants and offices - and they are an investment in timeless design.
The story behind
Kaare Klint (1888–1954) is regarded as one of the most important figures in Danish furniture history and as the one who formulated a methodical basis for the modern Danish furniture tradition. Based on classic furniture types, Klint worked analytically with proportions, ergonomics, and construction, and his armchairs particularly clearly demonstrate this discipline: form follows function, and detail is always justified.
Kaare Klint's armchairs range from light, movable models to more distinctive armchairs with high comfort and a clear furniture-architectural character. Common to them is a calm authority and clarity in construction, which makes them relevant across time and style. Whether it is a safari chair, a classic wing chair, or a bergère model, Klint's approach is the same: the furniture must be functional in use and appear balanced in the room.
The design and materials
Kaare Klint's armchairs are characterized by precise proportions, solid constructions, and a clear interplay between wood, upholstery, and load-bearing details. Wood types such as mahogany and ash appear in various productions, and seats and cushions are seen in, among other materials, leather, Niger leather, canvas, and textiles. Several models combine materials in a way where both comfort and durability are supported by the construction.
Klint worked with furniture that can withstand use and at the same time age with dignity. Therefore, patina, surfaces, and the intrinsic character of the materials play a significant role in the overall experience. These are armchairs that are not merely decorative but developed to function as daily utility items with high craftsmanship quality.
Selected models of Kaare Klint armchairs
KK 5313 – Armchair
The KK 5313 is an armchair that clearly demonstrates Klint's ability to combine classic furniture tradition with a clean, functional expression. The model is available in various finishes, including mahogany frames and upholstery in materials such as Savak fabric with leather piping or Niger leather. The KK 5313 appears calm and well-proportioned, and its construction gives the chair a solidity without making it seem heavy in the room. It is an armchair that works both as a standalone piece of furniture and as part of a more cohesive interior with other classics.
KK 47000 – Safari Chair
Kaare Klint's safari chair is one of his most famous and characteristic models. Designed in 1933, it is known for its light, disassemblable construction, where functionality and mobility were considered from the outset. The safari chair is seen, among other versions, crafted in ash with a seat and back in leather or canvas, and the interplay of materials emphasizes the chair's use-oriented idea. The model is both relaxed and precise in its expression and functions as an armchair in many types of rooms where comfort is desired without heavy upholstery.
KK 6212 – Wing Chair
The KK 6212 is Kaare Klint's take on a wing chair, where comfort and classic design meet in a balanced whole. The model is crafted in mahogany and is available with both original upholstery and newer reupholstery, including in textile. The wing-back shape creates a more secluded seating experience, making the chair suitable as a reading chair or a quiet piece of furniture in the living room. At the same time, the constructive clarity that characterizes Klint's furniture is preserved, where lines and proportions are precisely attuned.
Bergère – Armchair
The Bergère armchair is a rare and distinctive model that showcases Klint's interest in classic chair types interpreted in a Danish cabinet-making expression. The model is seen, among other versions, with a mahogany frame, rosewood inlays, and sides and back in French cane. In several executions, cane is combined with natural leather cushions and traditional stuffing, which provides a clear balance between lightness and comfort. The Bergère chair has a representative character but at the same time appears disciplined and calm in its design language.
Mix Chair – KK 4396A
The Mix Chair, model KK 4396A, is a chair with a characteristic interplay of materials, where the expression is both clean and sensuous. It is seen, among other versions, crafted in light mahogany with a seat and back in natural leather. The model appears light in the room, yet at the same time possesses a distinct furniture gravitas through its precise construction and choice of materials. The Mix Chair works well as a standalone armchair or as a supplement to more classic furnishings where variation in expression is desired without breaking the overall harmony.
