The story behind
Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) had a vision of creating furniture that could be used for generations. His dining tables are a clear expression of this philosophy – simple, robust and designed with function and everyday use in mind. Many of the tables were developed as part of larger furniture series, often with inspiration from traditional European furniture culture.
Mogensen worked with some of Denmark's leading furniture manufacturers and created dining tables that are today considered classics – both because of their aesthetics and their durability.
The design and materials
Børge Mogensen's dining tables are often made of solid wood such as oak, beech, teak or walnut. The tabletops are typically rectangular or round, often with the option of extension or additional leaves. The design is characterized by clean lines, visible constructions and proportions, which make the tables suitable for both formal and informal settings.
Several of the models are created as part of larger furniture series, where the same design language is repeated in chairs, tables and storage furniture. The combination of good craftsmanship and functional elegance makes these dining tables timeless.
Well-known types of Børge Mogensen dining tables
Shaker tables
Inspired by the American Shaker tradition, which Mogensen had great respect for. The tables have a minimalist expression, often with slender legs and simple joints. Made of solid wood and designed to work in both modern and classic homes.
Hunting table
A robust dining table with clear references to the rustic and functional. The hunting table is typically made of oak and designed with a focus on durability and stability - perfect for larger parties or everyday use with family and guests.
Library table
Originally intended as a work or study table, but often used as a dining table today. The library table has an architectural touch and is available in several variants – typically with a drawer and a solid table top in oak or teak. The table's versatility makes it an obvious choice in both the dining room and the kitchen-living room.
Øresund table
Part of Mogensen's Øresunds series, characterised by its functional simplicity and harmonious proportions. The table is often made of oak with the option of additional leaves, and it matches the series of cabinets, shelves and chairs from the same period.
Asserbo
The Asserbo series combines rustic charm with Nordic functionalism. The dining table is made of solid pine with visible joints and a natural finish. A table that exudes warmth and simplicity - ideal for a summer house, kitchen or dining area with character.
