The story behind

Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) had a strong belief that good design should serve a function. This is clearly seen in his desks, which were designed with a focus on peace of mind, overview, and long-lasting quality. His furniture was created for daily use – including in the workplace.

Mogensen worked with several manufacturers, including Søborg Møbelfabrik and P. Lauritsen & Søn, among which the desks from the 1950s and 60s in particular have become sought-after design classics. They combine clean lines and natural materials with practical details such as spacious drawers and pull-out trays.

The design and materials

A typical Børge Mogensen desk is simple in expression – often with a solid tabletop, visible joints, and slender legs in solid wood. Materials include oak, teak, walnut, and mahogany. The drawers typically feature wooden or brass handles and are functionally placed to provide space and order.

Several models are modular and available in both right- and left-handed versions – often with the option for drawers on both sides, shelves, or pull-outs. Regardless of the variation, the goal is the same: a functional, timeless desk with strong material quality.

Well-known Børge Mogensen desk models

SM 202 – Desk with drawer units

Designed in the 1950s for Søborg Møbelfabrik. The SM 202 is one of Mogensen's most famous desks – often made in oak or teak with double drawer units and a spacious tabletop. The layout of the drawers varies, but always balances function and aesthetics. It is an ideal desk for both the office and home workplace.

Desks from Søborg Møbelfabrik

Søborg Møbelfabrik produced several of Mogensen's work desks, characterized by their simple construction, clean lines, and high standard of craftsmanship. The desks are often made of solid wood with slightly slanted legs and drawers with integrated handles – an expression of Mogensen's uncompromising approach to functional design.

Desks from P. Lauritsen & Søn

P. Lauritsen & Søn collaborated with Mogensen in his early career and produced desks with characteristic details such as organic wooden handles, pull-out trays, and precise joints. Many of these desks are made of teak or mahogany and today hold high value among collectors of Danish furniture art.
